Why It’s Called Tiny Arms Studio
If you’ve ever wondered where the name Tiny Arms Studio came from, the answer is a lot less serious than the name eventually became.
It started with a nickname.
Years ago, my friends started calling me T-Rex because of my tiny arms — or, more accurately, my complete lack of arm strength. I did a lot of 5ks and so we joked that my legs were strong, but my arms were not. Much like a T-Rex that has big strong legs but tiny arms.
It was a joke, and honestly, it stuck.
At some point, when I was thinking about what to call my creative business, Tiny Arms Studio just felt right. It was personal, a little weird, easy to remember, and it didn’t sound like every other handmade shop out there.
What started as an inside joke eventually became something that meant a lot more to me.
Small Things Can Make a Big Impact
Over time, Tiny Arms Studio came to represent something bigger than the nickname behind it.
It became a reminder that small things can make a big impact.
A photograph can bring back an entire memory.
A tiny detail can be the part someone notices first.
A small gift can mean more than something expensive.
A little idea can turn into something completely unexpected.
That thought has become a big part of how I look at everything I create.
Tiny Arms Studio may be small, but the things made here are meant to feel personal.
I’ve Always Loved Making Things
Tiny Arms Studio started because I genuinely love making creative, meaningful things.
I like taking an idea that exists only in someone’s head — or a photograph sitting on their phone — and figuring out how to turn it into something real.
Sometimes that means transforming a favorite picture into layered 3D artwork.
Sometimes it means creating a custom pet keepsake.
Sometimes it’s a laser-engraved gift.
Sometimes it’s a graphic tee inspired by a strange idea that probably should have stayed in my brain but somehow became a shirt instead.
And sometimes I make something simply because I think it would be cool.
There isn’t really one category that defines Tiny Arms Studio.
The common thread is that I want the things I make to feel interesting, thoughtful, personal, or just a little unexpected.
Why Personalized Pieces Matter to Me
Some of my favorite projects are the ones that have a story attached to them.
A wedding photo.
A favorite picture of a pet.
A photograph of someone who is no longer here.
A memory from years ago.
Something funny that only makes sense to the person receiving it.
Those pieces are different because they aren’t just decorations or products.
They mean something to somebody.
I love the idea of taking a digital photo or a memory and turning it into a physical object you can hold, display, give to someone, and keep.
There’s something special about taking a picture that might otherwise disappear into a camera roll and giving it a place in someone’s home.
Not Everything Has to Be Sentimental
That said, Tiny Arms Studio definitely isn’t serious all the time.
Some things I make are sentimental.
Some are practical.
Some are weird.
And some exist because they made me laugh.
That’s also why graphic tees became part of the shop.
I love vintage-inspired artwork, strange little characters, animals with questionable motives, unexpected phrases, and designs that don’t look like everything else already out there.
Tiny Arms Studio gives me room to make all of it.
I don’t want the shop to feel like everything has to fit into one neat little box.
If something feels like it belongs here, I’ll probably find a way to make it.
What Happens in the Studio
Tiny Arms Studio really is a small studio.
There isn’t a giant production team behind the scenes.
When you order a custom piece, I’m the person working on it.
I’m designing the artwork, preparing the files, running the printers or laser, checking the finished piece, packaging the order, and sending it on its way.
I’m also usually the person staring at something at an unreasonable hour thinking:
I wonder if I could make that.
That curiosity is a big part of the studio.
I’m always learning new techniques, testing new materials, trying new equipment, changing designs, fixing things that didn’t work, and finding better ways to make the things I imagine.
Some ideas work immediately.
Others require several attempts and possibly some creative language.
That’s part of making things.
Small Studio. Big Ideas.
The phrase Small Studio. Big Ideas. has become one of my favorite ways to describe Tiny Arms Studio because it really does sum everything up.
This isn’t a massive company producing thousands of identical products.
It’s a small creative space where ideas turn into physical things.
Sometimes those ideas start with a customer.
Sometimes they start with a photograph.
Sometimes they start because I saw something and thought, I bet I could make that.
And occasionally they start with a raccoon.
You never really know.
The Name Fits Better Now Than It Did in the Beginning
When I first chose the name Tiny Arms Studio, I mostly thought it was funny.
Now I think it fits for completely different reasons too.
It reminds me that the little things matter.
The small details.
The tiny moments.
The photographs you almost forgot about.
The gift someone wasn’t expecting.
The weird idea that turns into something people love.
Tiny Arms Studio started with a joke about a T-Rex.
Somehow, it turned into a place where I get to take ideas and make them into something real.
And I think that’s a pretty good name for it.
Thank you for being here, supporting my small shop, and giving some of these tiny ideas a place to go.
